Tips on speaking well

Communication is a fundamental part of our lives, being present in every moment we interact with other beings – even our pets and computers depend on how well we communicate! However, each person is unique and has different characteristics that help or hinder communication at certain moments.

There are many tricks, techniques and manners to improve the way we speak in order to be better understood and have a high-performing conversation. Here are just a few of them to give you insights on how to implement them in your speaking:

  • Actually Start Listening. Sometimes we just want to say something, give an opinion, tell a story... but we don’t really pay attention to what other people are saying. Conversations are a two-way process, so give the attention you want others to give back to you.
  • Validate. Make sure everyone in the conversation is in common grounds, trying to achieve a rich conversation that entertains or leads to a solution. If there is someone lost in arguments or saying something out of context, just validate what was said to make sure you understand the person and the conversation remains effective.
  • Keep your Confidence. Even in situations where you may become shy, anxious or intimidated, try to relax as much as possible and remember that the effort to reach a good result can be more valuable than the method to reach it. Keep trying and learning from your mistakes, until there will be no mistake to be made.

These three ones are just quick tips to encourage you and others when speaking, but there are many unique methods you can use to improve your speaking. Keep practicing and soon you will discover them.
