Tips for NAPLAN

NAPLAN will take place in 2023 from Wednesday, March 15, to Monday, March 27, inclusive. This will help instructors to more accurately determine what support pupils will need in the upcoming school year and will mean that results will be accessible to education authorities earlier in the year to inform school and system teaching and learning plans.

Australia-wide tests known as NAPLAN are used to gauge pupils' foundational knowledge. Children's test scores, however, don't always accurately reflect their talents because of things like fear, poor student-teacher communication, and a lack of practise. When NAPLAN draws near, stress levels usually increase in households. Instead of understanding and ability, exam style and performance under test conditions have a significant impact on kids' NAPLAN test outcomes.

You may help your child succeed on the NAPLAN this year by using the tried-and-true NAPLAN tips and methods described in this article.

  • Highlight or underline key terms in the extract as you read it. Important phrases can be highlighted, circled, or underlined to make it easier to discover them again in the text, especially if you need to find data or statistics for an informative document. In addition, it saves time.
  • When you take a practise test in the future, try reading the questions first. The advantage of this is that you'll know exactly what the material is about and know what to look for when you read it. The possibility that you will subconsciously look for these answers is higher if you are already familiar with the questions because we must ultimately respond to the predefined questions to demonstrate reading comprehension.
  • Specify whether the passage is a narrative or an informational text (story). If it's a narrative, remind yourself to keep track of the characters, setting, and plot. If the work is an essay or informational writing, be aware of the main theme for each paragraph. Make a note of the specific details or perspectives in each section.
  • Choose any object for the writing test, and then in the next 10 minutes, write as much as you can about it. Instead of worrying about how complex your sentences are, just focus on getting words on paper. The following step is to go back and spend 5 minutes editing your work. At this point, you can apply your knowledge of linguistic structures. Use paragraphs when writing, do you? Is there an introduction, a focus, or a resolution? This strategy aids in the improvement of writing abilities.
  • Constructed responses and multiple choices are the two main components of the Naplan numeracy test. For 1-2 hours a day, you must practise math in order to do well on the numeracy test.
  • Your numeracy abilities can be considerably improved with regular practise using study materials from the last five years. Find superior practise exams and study guides for Naplan online. You can search for terms like "Naplan mock test 2023," "Naplan test books year 3," "Naplan test books year 5," "Naplan test series online," "Naplan test books year 7," "Naplan numeracy year 9," "Naplan test books year 9," and "Naplan practise papers" to find better resources for Naplan preparation.
  • A extended period of concentration on a topic will prevent you from answering the following question. If you're still unsure, remove any that are inaccurate and choose an educated guess from the options that are left. If there is still time, keep track of which answers are guesses and return back to them at the conclusion.
  • Purchase a copy of the NAPLAN test books for the examination year. You can familiarise yourself with the kinds of questions that will be on the exam by reading these books.
  • Practice taking the test in a timed environment. This will provide you with a general notion of how much time to allot for the exam's sections.
  • Review the information that will be on the test, and practise as much as you can. You can ace the NAPLAN test with some planning ahead and a structured study schedule.
  • Discuss how to respond to particular types of questions: Talk about how students can use the process of elimination to increase their odds of choosing the right answer while answering multiple-choice questions, and practise it with them.
  • Share ideas: For the NAPLAN Writing component, students must create an informative, persuasive, or narrative piece of writing. Finding creative writing topics is crucial for this exam. While some students are bursting with creative ideas, many students find it difficult to come up with brilliant ideas while they are under exam pressure.
  • Spend some time before the writing exam helping the students refine their writing and brainstorming skills by having them come up with writing ideas in response to practise questions. This activity is designed to teach students how to brainstorm so they will be better prepared and confident when it is time to take the exam.

Importantly, avoid viewing NAPLAN as a burden. Drilling too much in advance is not necessary. Make NAPLAN study a regular habit rather than allowing the months leading up to exams to be stressful. Acquire skills for life, not just for exams. It will be simpler to take any tests after this.
