Easter activities for speech and language

We are entering Easter’s long weekend, which has a relevant value for cultural meanings. Nevertheless, this moment of the year is usually highly desired for children because it represents family gathering, magical immersion with Easter Bunny and other elements and, of course, chocolate! Apart from all these opportunities from Easter, there are some activities that parents and carers can conduct to keep children stimulated regarding speech and language during Easter and holiday break:

  • Word-filled egg: When stimulating the child’s pronunciation of certain sounds, you can write a word or a simple phonogram and put it inside an egg to be found. When the child finds the egg and says the word or sound the way as expected, the child can eat some candy (maybe the egg itself is made of chocolate).
  • Colouring and dying eggs: Be it with real egg-shaped items or with eggs drawn on paper, this simple activity has the potential to reinforce vocabulary by exploring instructions, directions, colours, letters, drawn shapes etc. Even the experience of mixing colours can be made, impressing children when reaching green by mixing blue and yellow, for example.
  • Reverse egg hunt: Instead of hiding the eggs for children, the strategy is based on giving the “power” to the child to hide them for parents and carers to search for. However, instead of only going frantically towards places, you must give words of places and objects to the child, who must answer with prepositions. For example, you say “bed”, and the child says “the egg is under the bed”, or “the egg is far from the bed” etc.

These three fun activities can make your children immersed in Easter spirit while stimulating speech and language skills!
