Communication activities for Valentine's Day

Valentine’s Day will be next Tuesday, but since it is such a fun day for kids, it may still be explored throughout the remainder of the month through crafts and other activities. We’ve selected a few simple-to-prepare games that will engage kids undergoing therapy.

  • Paper Hearts. Cut out 11 hearts. (Simple method: fold the paper in half and cut a half-heart shape around the crease. Once unfurled, this creates the most symmetrical hearts!) After that, cut and paste each sentence of a story to a heart. Ask the kids to arrange the hearts after reading this narrative to them. Great for achieving tale retell and sequencing objectives.
  • Valentine’s Day Cards. Kids can communicate their feelings to their family and friends throughout Valentine’s Week. Create straightforward Valentine’s Day cards to take advantage of this language opportunity. This helps with verbal expression objectives, using entire sentences, writing language sequencing, reading aloud, etc. It’s excellent language exercise whether they write a letter to a friend or a list of things they appreciate about their mother. You can assist them with putting the finished Valentine’s card in an envelope and adding a few conversation hearts so it's ready to be delivered after that.
  • I Spy Hearts in Things. Images of hearts in abstract items can be found on this photo website. Pick five or ten images from the gallery to present your pupils. Children with a variety of expressive and receptive language goals, as well as fluency goals, might benefit from doing this practise. You can practise fluent phrase construction, describe a picture while the child listens and points to it, discuss similarities and contrasts across photographs, and talk about the senses each picture evokes as you look at the lovely images.
