ATTENTION & MEMORY TRAINING

Build focus, strengthen memory, and support learning

Attention and memory are at the core of how children learn.
When these skills are not working efficiently, it can show up as:
– difficulty focusing
– forgetting instructions
– incomplete work
– frustration with school
This is not about intelligence. It is about how the brain processes and holds information.

Attention and memory affect everyday learning

Working memory is what allows a child to:

– follow instructions
– keep track of tasks
– understand what they are reading
– solve problems

When this is weaker, it can feel like there is an “invisible ceiling” on their potential, even when they are capable.

Fortunately, working memory is like a muscle

Neuroscientists have found working memory can be expanded and improved through specific, intensive exercises.

Cogmed is a highly structured cognitive training program designed to expand and improve working memory for preschoolers, school children and adults.

It combines personal coaching from Speakable’s Cogmed Qualified Coach with a series of daily, computer based exercises, which may be done from home over a series of weeks.

Our approach

At Speakable, we focus on practical, real-world strategies that help children:

– stay focused for longer
– reduce distractions
– remember and use information
– complete tasks with greater independence

We do not rely on rigid programs. Instead, we tailor each session to the child and teach skills they can actually use at school and at home.

How we build these skills

Sessions are structured, engaging, and goal-driven.
We use:
– targeted attention tasks
– memory-building activities
– step-by-step learning strategies
– repetition with variation to build confidence
As skills improve, tasks become more challenging, helping children gradually build mental stamina.

Who this is for

This support is suitable for children who:
– are easily distracted
– struggle to follow instructions
– forget what they have just learned
– find it hard to stay on task
– are underperforming despite being capable

What this leads to

As attention and memory improve, children often:

– feel more confident in class
– complete work more independently
– experience less frustration
– engage more positively with learning

Support for your child starts here

We start with a conversation to understand your child’s strengths, challenges, and goals.

From there, we create a plan that is practical, personalised, and focused on real progress.
